Volume work — reversible vs. irreversible expansion (3D)
About this app
An ideal gas expands isothermally in a thermostat bath along three paths: reversibly, against constant external pressure and freely into a vacuum. The p–V diagram shows the work as the area under the external pressure; in the lecture example that is −2.68, −1.62 and 0 kJ. Compression and multistage expansion are included.
