Noise in the hall: levels, distance, measures (3D)
About this app
A factory hall with four draggable machines and a person as the measuring point: the level field lies on the floor as a heatmap, the warning zone from 85 dB is hatched. The sum shows live why 80 and 80 dB make only 83 dB and how much distance helps. Measures at generation, propagation and hearing protection can be switched and compared.
With explain mode: an AI tutor walks you through the app, points out what matters in the scene and answers your questions.
Levels add logarithmically
Sound levels add through their energy: L = 10 · log10(Σ 10^(Li/10)). Two equally loud sources therefore give only 3 dB more. In a free field the level falls by 6 dB per doubling of distance, in a room reflected sound adds to it. Measures work in the order generation, propagation and personal protection.
What the app shows
A factory hall with four draggable machines and a person as the measuring point. The level field lies on the floor as a heatmap, the zone from 85 dB is hatched. The sum updates live. The model is simplified and described in the info panel.
What you can try
Switch machines on and off, change levels and distances and compare measures. Hearing protection changes the value at the ear. Measures at the source shrink the warning zone for everyone in the hall.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you add decibels?
- Through their energy: L = 10 · log10(Σ 10^(Li/10)). Two sources of 80 dB each give about 83 dB.
- How much does sound level fall with distance?
- For a point source in a free field by 6 dB per doubling of distance. In rooms it falls less because of reflections.
- Which noise measure comes first?
- Avoid generation first, then limit propagation, and use personal hearing protection last.
- What can I do in the app?
- Drag machines and the measuring point, change levels, switch measures and follow the sum live. The app plays no sound.
