Platform atlas: heyprof as a living map

About this app

heyprof as a map: the course in the centre, the four pillars Teach, Study, Grow and Together with thirteen functions, and teacher, learners and organisation on the outside. Six scenarios (upload slides, ask the tutor, live quiz, photo submission, ask a film, VisuLab) run as a signal step by step; the technology view unfolds the same flows into the browser, Next.js on Vercel, Supabase and AI services.

With explain mode: an AI tutor walks you through the app, points out what matters in the scene and answers your questions.

The idea

A learning platform consists of functions that teachers and learners see and a technical layer underneath. heyprof arranges its functions around the course as the shared place where the teacher switches functions on per course. Four pillars structure them: Teach (materials, presenting, VisuLab, CourseLab), Study (AI tutor, VisuApps, interactive films), Grow (exercises and tests, photo submission, revision) and Together (live quiz, anonymous questions, course chat). On the outside are the teacher, the learners and the organisation, which invites members and assigns roles; data is separated per organisation.

What the app shows

The function view shows the ring of four pillars with thirteen functions; a sparkle on a node marks where AI is involved. The technology view unfolds the same flows into four layers: browser and device, the Next.js application with API routes on Vercel, Supabase with Storage, pgvector, PostgreSQL with Row Level Security and Auth, and the AI services. Only the API layer calls AI models; the device never talks to them directly. Six scenarios run as a signal step by step: upload slides, ask the tutor, live quiz, photo submission, ask a film and VisuLab. The picture is simplified, as of October 2026.

Try it yourself

Click a node to open its details: what the function does, who it is for and whether AI is involved. Then start a scenario and follow the signal, for example when slides are uploaded: pdf.js reads the text of each page in the browser, /api/ingest creates embeddings, and the passages are stored in pgvector. Finally switch to the technology view and see the same flow with routes, tables and models.

Frequently asked questions

How does an AI tutor find the right passage in the course material?
On upload the material is split into passages, and each passage gets a vector (embedding). A question is turned into a vector in the same way, and a similarity search returns the closest passages. In heyprof these are the five most similar passages from the learner’s own course, on which the language model bases its answer.
What is Row Level Security?
Row Level Security is a PostgreSQL feature that defines access rules for individual rows of a table. Each query returns only the rows the signed-in person is allowed to see. In heyprof it keeps the data of different organisations apart.
Does the learner’s device talk to the AI provider directly?
No. In heyprof only the application’s API routes call AI models. The browser sends its request to the platform’s own API, which adds the context, calls the model and streams the answer back.
What does the “Platform atlas” app show?
It shows heyprof as a map with the course, four pillars, thirteen functions and the roles teacher, learners and organisation. Six scenarios run as a signal step by step, and the technology view shows the same flows across the browser, Next.js on Vercel, Supabase and AI services.
