Prusa CORE One — exploded view (3D)

About this app

The real, openly licensed CAD design of a Prusa CORE One 3D printer as an interactive exploded view: 8 toggleable assemblies, 163 clickable real parts, animated explode cascade, a see-through case mode and a guided assembly tour. Shows how CAD data plus a manual become an understandable 3D learning object.

Inside a CoreXY printer

The Prusa CORE One is an enclosed 3D printer built on the CoreXY principle. Two stationary motors move the print head in the plane through a belt system; since the motors do not travel with it, the moving mass stays small. The print head melts filament and lays it down layer by layer. The heated bed holds the first layer in place and is moved in Z by lead screws, which sets the layer height. An enclosed build chamber keeps the temperature even, which helps with plastics that tend to warp as they cool.

What you see

The app loads the openly licensed CAD design of the printer. Parts are coloured by assembly: enclosure and frame, XY motion system, print head, heated bed, Z axis, door, display and controls, and the activated-carbon filter. A slider pulls every part apart along its assembly direction. Each assembly can be shown or hidden, and tapping a part shows its name and assembly. The enclosure can be made transparent, a turntable rotates the model, and a guided tour presents the assemblies one after another.

Things to try

Open the explode slider, then hide every assembly except the XY motion system. You will see the belts, motors and linear guides that move the print head. Add the heated bed and Z axis to follow how the bed is raised. With the enclosure transparent you can see where the mechanics sit inside the closed body. The tour is a good starting point if you do not know the printer yet.

Frequently asked questions

What does CoreXY mean on a 3D printer?
CoreXY is a motion system in which two stationary motors move the print head in X and Y through two crossed belts. If only one motor turns, the head moves diagonally; if both turn, it moves along one axis. Because the motors stay put, high accelerations are possible.
Why do some 3D printers have an enclosure?
An enclosed build chamber keeps the air around the part warm and evenly heated. That reduces warping and cracking with plastics such as ABS or ASA, which shrink strongly as they cool. A filter can also clean the exhaust air.
What is an exploded view?
An exploded view shows a product with its parts pulled apart, each along its assembly direction, so it is clear how they fit together. It is common in assembly manuals, spare-parts catalogues and technical documentation.
Is the model in the app a replica?
No, the app uses the real, openly licensed CAD design of the printer. Every coloured part is an actual part from the design. The grouping into assemblies is there for orientation.
