Nucleosome & chromatin (3D)

About this app

How 2 m of DNA fit into a nucleus: five compaction levels of the same genetic material, each at its own scale — double helix, beads on a string (147 bp around a histone octamer, H1), 30 nm fibre as a model (solenoid/zigzag), loops on a protein scaffold, metaphase chromosome. Acetylation opens the chromatin and lets RNA polymerase in, methylation with HP1 compacts it. Exhibit-ready.
