The beautiful facade: why AI answers sound so convincing
About this app
An AI answer as a splendid facade: every window axis is a sentence, all sound equally sure. Three counter-spells shine behind it (ask back, check the source, second opinion) and show for each sentence foundation, sand or stage set. Sound and support as a picture, four everyday answers and a traffic light for when checking matters most.
With explain mode: an AI tutor walks you through the app, points out what matters in the scene and answers your questions.
Sound and hold
A language model has learned from a vast amount of text what good answers sound like: fluent sentences, a confident tone, a clean structure, sometimes even references. It produces this sound in every answer, whether a statement is true or not. That is why right and wrong sentences seem equally convincing. Invented studies, rulings or quotes are called hallucinations. Often, though, the AI is right. Which sentences hold only becomes clear when you check.
What the app shows
An AI answer stands as a building facade with five window bays; each bay is a sentence. Hidden in the ground below lies what carries the sentence. Three counter-spells shine behind the facade: ask back, check the source and get a second opinion. Then each sentence reveals a solid foundation, sand or a mere stage set. Two gauges accompany every answer: the sound is always full, the hold only becomes visible after checking.
Try it yourself
Choose one of four example answers: zinc against colds, a rent increase, the physicist Lise Meitner or the soft-boiled breakfast egg. Apply the counter-spells and watch which sentences hold. Some sources are invented on purpose, just as AI sometimes invents sources. The egg answer shows that much is also true. Under “When to check?” a traffic light shows when checking matters most: health, money, law and anything concerning people.
Frequently asked questions
- Why do AI answers sound so sure even when they are wrong?
- A language model has learned what convincing texts sound like and produces this tone in every answer. Whether a statement is true is not checked while writing. A confident tone therefore says little about whether something is right.
- How do I check an AI answer?
- Ask how sure the AI is and what speaks against it. For important statements ask for sources with a link, open them and find the passage. Get a second opinion from another tool or from an expert.
- What are AI hallucinations?
- Statements an AI phrases convincingly that are made up, such as studies, rulings or quotes that do not exist. When asked, an AI sometimes keeps defending an invented source.
- When should I check AI answers especially carefully?
- For health, money, law and anything concerning other people. For general knowledge, travel and technology a look at a second source is usually enough. When collecting ideas or drafting, what counts is whether it helps you.
