Restriction notice & AI declaration
About this app
Thesis at a company: the university’s confidentiality cascade as a staircase, a vault showing who may see the thesis, a generator for the restriction notice with a five-year period and a decision tree for the AI declaration.
With explain mode: an AI tutor walks you through the app, points out what matters in the scene and answers your questions.
Confidentiality and restriction notice
If you write your thesis at a company, you meet two separate rules. At Reutlingen University confidentiality follows a cascade: usually no agreement is needed, because examiners are bound by statutory official secrecy. If the company still wants one, the university’s template applies first; only then is a company template reviewed. The university does not conclude individual confidentiality agreements. Separately, the admission form has a restriction notice field: “yes” means only the two examiners see the thesis, for assessment; “no” means public in principle, with copyright staying with the author.
What the app shows
In 3D the cascade rises as a staircase, a company jumps from step to step, and an NDA sheet is visibly crossed out. A glass vault around the thesis shows whose view ends at the wall with “yes”: the public and teaching stay outside, the two examiners stand inside. The generator inserts company, end date and optionally restricted chapters into the university’s German template text and shows the five-year restriction period as a timeline, with an English reading aid.
Try it yourself
Toggle the restriction notice, step through the three levels and test the NDA misconception. Enter your company and submission date in the generator and copy the finished German text; 29 February turns into 28 February at the end of the period. In the AI declaration mode you answer three yes/no questions and see on the form which of the three options you tick, or that you must talk to your examiners first.
Frequently asked questions
- What does a restriction notice on a bachelor thesis mean?
- It states that the thesis contains confidential company data. With “yes” only the two examiners may see it, and only to assess it. Without it the thesis is public in principle; the copyright stays with the author.
- How long does a thesis restriction period last?
- In the Reutlingen University template it ends five years after submission on the same calendar day. If you submit on 29 February, it ends on 28 February.
- Do I have to declare AI use if it was allowed?
- Yes. Even with permitted use and no labelling requirement, the use is declared on the form in agreement with the examiners. If AI was used without permission, no option fits and this must be clarified before signing.
- What does the app “Restriction notice & AI declaration” show?
- It shows the confidentiality cascade, a vault for who may see the thesis, a generator for the restriction notice with a timeline, and a decision tree for the AI declaration in 3D, in German and English.
