The path to the bachelor thesis (3D)

About this app

Six stations from topic to colloquium as a 3D landscape, with an examiner check and a grade calculator showing why both parts must be passed on their own.

With explain mode: an AI tutor walks you through the app, points out what matters in the scene and answers your questions.

What the bachelor thesis is about

The bachelor thesis is an examination: you show that you can work on a task independently, within a set deadline, using scientific methods. It has two parts, the written thesis and the colloquium or oral examination. Every thesis has two examiners; the supervisor is the first examiner. The application for admission starts a three-month deadline, and a late submission is graded 5.0. The content comes from the thesis information session of the WING programmes at Reutlingen University; the examination regulations and thesis guidelines are binding.

What the app shows

A 3D landscape with a winding path and six stations as buildings: topic, supervisor, application, writing, submission and colloquium. A game piece shows where you are, and a band marks the 3-month deadline between application and submission. A barrier closes for an invalid examiner combination. At the end, a bridge on two pillars – thesis 80 %, colloquium 20 % – leads to the goal.

What you can try

Click the stations and read the rules. In the Examiners panel you combine first and second examiners from WING, the ESB, another faculty, a partner university or a company and see whether the combination is valid. In the Grade panel you choose IWI, SPB or PM and set both grades: the app computes 0.8 · thesis + 0.2 · colloquium and shows that a 5.0 in one part breaks the bridge – even with a good average.

Frequently asked questions

How is the bachelor thesis grade with colloquium calculated?
In the WING programmes at Reutlingen University the written thesis counts 80 % and the colloquium or oral examination 20 %. The module grade is 0.8 · thesis + 0.2 · colloquium, to two decimal places.
Is an average below 4.0 enough if one part is graded 5.0?
No. Each part must be at least “sufficient” on its own. Thesis 1.7 and colloquium 5.0 give an average of 2.36 – the module is still failed.
When should I apply for admission to the bachelor thesis?
Not too early: the application fixes the topic assignment x and the latest submission x + 3 months. Preparatory work before the application date is allowed, and you may submit earlier.
What can I try in the app?
You walk the six stations, check combinations of first and second examiners and work out your module grade for IWI, SPB or PM. The explain mode guides you through all stations in a demonstration.
