The end

The fretboard, measured

Every fret shortens the vibrating string by the same fraction and raises the note by one semitone. After twelve frets the string is half as long and the note is one octave higher.

An explainer film in four chapters to listen to, on a 3D steel-string guitar: string and fret make the note, the frets close in towards the body, fret 12 sits exactly at the middle of the string (half the length, double the frequency, one octave), and the same note lives in several places. Plus a G major chord and the capo. Pause and ask.
