Diagram-types explorer
About this app
The same motor control in four representations: overview diagram, function diagram, detailed representation and contact mirror + device list — two views side by side, hovering a component highlights it synchronously in all, optionally with a clickable simulation.
Four diagram types, one system
Electrical installations are drawn differently depending on purpose. The overview diagram is single-line and shows only the main components; a slash marked “3” stands for three conductors. It gives a quick picture but no control logic. The circuit diagram in attached representation draws each device as one unit with dashed linkage lines; that is intuitive but only practical for small circuits. The detached representation arranges everything by numbered current paths and is the standard for real systems. A contact table and device list complete it.
What the app shows
All views show the same motor control with latching: a 3 × 400 V supply, fuses F1 and F3, overload relay F2, contactor K1, pushbuttons S0 and S1, indicator lamp H1 and three-phase motor M1. Two views sit side by side and can be combined freely. Pointing at a component highlights it in both views, and a click pins the highlight. The components panel lists designation and function. The contact table under K1 shows which current path each contact works in and which remain unused, such as 21/22.
With simulation
Turn on the simulation and tap S1 or S0 directly in the circuit diagrams. S1 pulls in K1, latching via 13/14 holds it, and S0 stops it. This lets you follow the same switching sequence in the attached and the detached diagram. Notice how in the detached diagram the coil and contacts of K1 appear in different places, and only the contact table brings them back together.
Frequently asked questions
- What types of electrical diagrams are there?
- Common types are the overview or single-line diagram, the circuit diagram in attached representation, the circuit diagram in detached representation, and supporting lists such as contact tables and device lists. Installation and terminal diagrams are added depending on the application. Each type emphasises a different aspect of the same system.
- What is a contact table (contact mirror) in a circuit diagram?
- A contact table is placed under the coil of a contactor or relay in a detached circuit diagram. It lists all contacts of the device with their type and the current path in which they are used. Unused contacts are visible there as well.
- What is the difference between attached and detached representation?
- In attached representation, each device is drawn with all its parts in one place, connected by linkage lines. In detached representation, coil and contacts are drawn separately in the current paths where they act. This keeps large control circuits readable.
- Can I view two diagram types at once in the app?
- Yes. You choose one of the four views for the left side and one for the right. Components are highlighted in both views at the same time, and with the simulation you operate the control circuit directly in the diagram.
